Home Improvement Trends: What Other Homeowners are Pursuing Right Now
If you're anything like the clients I have been working with recently, you've probably been thinking about making a few updates to your home. If that's the case, you may want to get on our schedule sooner than later. This is the heaviest project booking season.
What projects have my phone ringing off the hook, you ask? Well, take a look:
Kitchen renovations have always been one of the most popular projects, but recently, my clients have been taking that to a whole new level.
As you'll see in the graph above, we are right in line with the nationwide trend: My clients often want partial to full kitchen remodels, a conversation that regularly starts with,
"We really want new countertops..." and leads to so much more.
Another big update I get asked about is light fixtures. As popular knowledge of artificial lighting's impact on mood increases, my clients are asking for specific light features in each room of their renovation.
Bright and numerous can lights in the kitchen, warm lighting in the family room, soft lighting in the bedroom — each bulb type and light fixture creates an ambiance that sets the appropriate mood and increases overall satisfaction with the home.
Many of my clients are forward-thinkers. Even if they don't require an accessible home at this moment, they are already planning for when they do. We are installing grab bars, hand rails, and wheelchair height countertops for my clients' future needs. If I get a request from someone with an immediate need for these things, I move that request higher on the list.
No one should be unsafe in their own home.
In addition to these accessibility features, I also often remodel to create first floor laundry rooms, and even first floor master suites with safe and easy-to-use shower features.
DESIGN TIP
Switch to LED lighting to save time and money
Not only will LED lighting save you money on your electrical bill, but it will also help reduce the number of times you need to swap out a bulb. That fact makes them especially useful for homeowners with limited range of motion or mobility, like your senior friends and family.
DESIGN HIGHLIGHT
61% of senior citizens are without accessible homes
Do you have a friend or family member who needs grab bars, wider hallways, or ramps in and around their home? According to the U.S. Census, the answer is yes. Help them by referring their needs to us. We're passionate about making sure they can live at home as long as possible.
