Why Beautiful Color and Patterns Are Essential for High-End Home Design
In design, color, and patterns can sometimes be intimidating, but when done right, they can be oh-so-sexy.
Interior Design professionals use colors and patterns to express a mood among many things. It is something that is understood by all, and when done right, can set the right tone for a room. Even if you're not an expert on interior design, you know what it feels like when you walk into a well-designed room. Learn the top reasons designers choose to go bold with color and patterns, and how it pays off in any room experience.
Choosing colors and patterns for interior design is more complex than may seem. Not only do you need to consider which colors you like and which colors go together, but you also need to consider how patterns will make you feel.
The psychology of color shows us that some colors make us excited or hungry while others make us feel relaxed. Color alone can change the mood while inspiring energy or promoting conversation. The effects of color infuse peace and relaxation, improve wellness, and ultimately, create a person's ideal life.
Patterns transform a space while adding pops of color invites movement. They keep the eyes scanning the room, create visual interest, and add personality to any space.
Just like texture, patterns can also define spaces, impact scale, and convey your design style. It’s important to use caution when applying a pattern; if it's not well balanced it can really overwhelm a space. As a designer, my goal is always to create color harmony which means pairing your key color with the color sitting on the opposite side of the color wheel.
The repetition of colors and patterns works together to create design harmony. And when your space draws in peace, you feel at home, and at ease. Stick to one color palette with similar shapes and textures for a cohesive look and feel.
Pick a classic combo like grey and beige, and pair together ochre and matte black as shown in the image above. Whatever combination you choose, stick with it throughout the room. There are many ways to work with opposing hues and tones, but a simple strategy is to focus on pairing light colors with dark finishes. You might be surprised at how opposites can blend into a beautiful harmony.
Is there a pattern or color palette you've been crushing on lately? I’d love to see it! Reach out and let's get acquainted.
